Your Facial Guide to Botox

What Is Botox?

Let's start from the beginning. Botox (Botulinum toxin) is a neurotoxic protein that safely calms nerve-muscle imbalances and is mainly used to prevent and repair wrinkles on the face. Botox is also used to treat excessive perspiration, chronic migraines, and muscle spasms, among other things.

How does it work? Botox temporarily paralyzes the muscle where it is administered, causing the wrinkles to fade as the muscle relaxes. The procedure is safe and straightforward, taking only a few minutes to complete. During your session, your doctor or nurse will go over your procedure goals with you, map out the areas you'd like to target, administer a few brief injections (you'll feel a minor pinch), and you'll be done! You can do a fast touch-up over your lunch break, while doing errands, or on the weekends because it's so straightforward and quick.

Which Areas Can Botox Treat?

Forehead

The obstinate lines slithering across foreheads and annoying frown lines between the eyebrows (also known as the 11 lines) are some of the earliest face wrinkles to form. This is due to the range of brow movements we use. Botox injections into the forehead muscles are an excellent way to reduce these problem areas. 10-30 units is a typical number of units required for treatment.

Mouth

We develop lines and wrinkles around our mouths as we age due to laughing, smiling, and frowning. Fortunately, Botox can help with erasing frown lines, restoring a "gummy" smile, lifting the corners of your mouth, and augmenting the top lip (also known as the "Botox lip flip"). 3–10 units are often required for treatment.

Eyes

Eye muscles get a workout as one of the most expressive places on our faces, resulting in crow's feet fanning out from the outer corners of our eyes and wrinkles slanting beneath our lower eyelids. Botox is the most remarkable treatment for these wrinkles, especially if at-home lotions and serums aren't producing adequate effects. The average number of units required for treatment is 16-24.

Chin

Botox is most commonly associated with the upper half of the face, although you can also utilize it on the chin. The Peau d'Orange (orange peel) effect is when rough skin appears on your chin as you become older. This phenomenon is caused by the chin losing volume, resulting in a rippling appearance. Tiny injections of botox into the muscles surrounding the chin can readily address this issue. The average number of units required for treatment is 5-10.

Neck

The platysmal bands around our neck become more visible as we become older. To tighten up the skin in the neck area, a combination of Botox and other procedures can be employed to remove years off your appearance. The average number of units required for treatment is 50-100.
