Jason presented with a number of common TMD symptoms, not limited to symptoms in his inner ear and neck pain. His main complaint had to do with his airway. He often choked on his food, felt fatigued from exerted breathing while sleeping. Because he couldn’t sleep for more than a few hours a night he struggled with dizziness and brain fog. As a scientist and researcher these side effects were affecting his career. Despite already being subject to several airway related surgeries, he continued to struggle day to day. After a thorough clinical exam and review of his CBCT we saw that he was a candidate for arch expansion. Jason began sleeping better within weeks of beginning to develop his dental architecture and that sleep quality and ability to breathe day and night continued to improve over the following year as his other symptoms also resolved. Tyler initially presented to address his upper tooth that had chipped and concerned with the wear and tear on his upper from teeth. He had been told he had to crown all four of his front teeth due to the current and anticipated continued wear. Our comprehensive exam revealed he suffered from migraines, had been given a nightguard that he didn’t use because he didn’t like his teeth, poor sleep and mental fogginess. Tyler had had braces twice in his youth and had a tooth extracted from the upper jaw. We explained the whys of the wear and tear on his teeth and Tyler responded, “I want to fix it right.” After expansion on his upper arch, we created room to replace the missing tooth, and placed an implant.
